Iodine, the missing trace mineral
Without iodine our bodies are functioning in slow motion, we can't produce enough thyroid hormone, our metabolism slows and we can stiff tendons that can't straighten easily. But, who ever thinks about getting enough iodine from their food? Well, we should. Here in Alberta we have iodine deficient soils, were landlocked and we don't eat tons of seafood or seaweed as part of our diet. Ocean fish, crustaceans and seaweeds are the best natural sources of iodine we can consume. If you're concerned about your iodine levels, paint a 1 inch square patch of iodine (can be found in any pharmacy) on the inside of your forearm and watch to see how long it takes for your body to absorb it, it should take 24 hours, if it takes less time than that, you need to be getting more iodine in your diet!
Am home from work today and will try this, it sounds interesting. i know my thyroid is not working correctly. Will let you know how it worked. Michelle
